For this project, we chose to take the classic french bakery aesthetic and modernize it. Our goal was to take traditional, hand crafted finishes and use them in contemporary ways. We hoped to bring the essence of the classic bakery, a warm bistro environment for friends and family to gather, to Fort Worth, Texas.
A classic black wood pane framed entrance mixed with classic white square subway tile invite you to an open, quintessential checkerboard floor space. A white subway tile bakery is visible, separated by a contemporary wood counter with light marble counter top and thin glass pastry displays. A vivid neon yellow paint was applied to bentwood chairs, a play on a model bakery chair with a modern touch.
Branding
Keeping in line with the modernized traditional, The Black Rooster brand goal was to bring together folk ornamental cafe lettering structure and typeface combinations. We stripped down the ornamental and brought in colors inspired directly by the fresh in house baked pastries, breads and breakfast foods. We took the profile of a black rooster, brought in subtle ornamental elements, and backed it with a nod to the textured baked good. The result was an brand that transcends time with its updated classic style.
