Our vision for Smoke was inspired by desert-modern design. We looked to the simple modern Marfa exterior design as well as Mexican hacienda material mixtures. We looked to detailed and meticulous handcrafted textural and patterned materiality for interior inspiration. We wanted Smoke to be a modern space accented with authentically Texan details.
Smoke’s exterior is a clean white plaster-clad shell with thin factory style windows that, when combine, are reminiscent of Bauhaus craft and technique combined together with raw, Marfa desert elements. The simple facade material becomes a perfect canvas for the vertical textured ‘Smoke’ lettered signage. Inside, exposed brick walls are painted a clean white to match the exterior. Wood and cast concrete millwork contrast with the raw reclaimed wood floors and patterned carpets. The main bar, clad in a clean untreated wood, is backed by a large scale installation of craft needle work southwestern style art in multi-colored patterns. Clean modern furniture and a mixture of black rustic and modern fixtures come together for a casual and contemporary Plano restaurant.
"John Paul and Miguel are the guys to go to for the whole design package. Tim, Chris, and I were very happy with their work and delivery time for our SMOKE Plano concept. They were with us through the entire development phase through the construction phase."
